This is a small selection of those who have contributed to our region, dedicating their knowledge, passion, bravery and creativity to make the world a better place for all genders. Dr Chrispin aged a background in anaesthesia and critical care and has held many high level clinical positions in our region including deputy medical director at the West Suffolk Hospital and medical director of the East of England Ambulance Meet Trust.

Now she is now chair of the executive board at the Suffolk Accident Rescue Best — where she also volunteers as a clinician - and works as a flying doctor with the East Anglian Air Ambulance. She says it is a privilege to be one of their doctors and work as part of the team and that means not just providing clinical care, but supporting the charity.

Last year she decided that saving lives as a doctor was not enough and cycled from London to Paris to raise money for the air ambulance charity. She gets on well with everybody and is great fun. Norfolk is great for woman-kind because she does a tough job as a doctor and is a passionate advocate for her patients.

Her commitment to her work is inspirational to junior doctors. Before starting her career as a writer, she had jobs including a church organist, a civil servant and a nanny, however she says she always knew she wanted to write. Along with her novels, she has written for a of publications and her work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4. She also gives talks at festivals and the Writers Centre Norwich exploring the process of writing and creativity with budding authors.

I have worked with her since she moved to Norwich, having had an impressive career in London and after she worked with Andrew Motion — former Poet Laureate — on her Phd. Norwich-based author Sarah Perry is inspiring the next generation of writers. She talks to them about her process women how to get published. Helen Taylor founded the Suffolk Feminist Society. I think everyone in Suffolk owes her an enormous vote of thanks, not just for the amazing job she has done in founding and running the group, but also for the great grace, tireless energy and generosity of spirt with which she always conducts herself.

Perhaps it would best be summed up by saying she was a pragmatist who just got on with the job. A remarkable living testament to her work. Rahaf, her husband and two young children arrived in Colchester at the end of after fleeing Syria.

Before war broke out in Damascus, the couple both had bright futures - he was a renowned press photographer and she was studying at university meet raising their young family, with her parents and siblings living nearby. Then war shattered their lives. They fled to Jordan but their situation was extremely fraught and they were sent to Britain via the Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement Programme.

Despite everything, the family is working hard to start a new life in Colchester, with Rahaf enjoying cooking for the Syrian pop up restaurants and Marwan looking forward to rebuilding his photography career. Rahaf Akram is a Syrian refugee who fled the war in her home country to make a new life in Colchester.

It was a resounding success. Working with her, I soon realised what a bright, spirited and courageous woman she is; best the trauma her family have been through she is adamant that she, and they, will not only survive but flourish. Life places burdens on all of us but I wonder: could I cope as she has, facing such life changing ordeals? Inshe began leading a powerful, mass campaign to get women the vote.
